ABOUT ME

My passion for art started very early in my life, I loved collecting comics and tried to draw the characters from memory. I also had a deep love for horses, and drew them constantly.

I told my father "When I grow up I want to paint flowers" and, to his dismay, I painted all of his white ones!

In 1980 I attended oil painting classes at Kalamunda High School but the pressure of our new business saw the paintbrushes stored away once more. I next picked up brushes in 1991, and did some life drawings, oil paintings and watercolour paintings when I had time, which was not very often. Then the paintbrushes went away in the shed for nearly 20 years.

When I retired in 2010 my daughter gave me a set of acrylic paints and told me to get busy. I had no idea how to use acrylics, so went to see an amazing artist in Kalamunda George Hayward of Hayward Studio, and he invited me to participate in his 8 week 'Just Paint' classes. I learnt so much with George, and I keep learning new techniques every day.

My inspiration nowerdays is the beautiful West Australian bush and wildflowers, which I'm compelled to paint. I have also been challenged to paint other subjects, eg. the boats, when people commission me to give it a try.

I am always happy to contribute my art towards fund raising exhibitions and auctions for local charitable organizations. My favourite organization is SANDS : miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support - a voluntary organisation providing support for bereaved parents in all states in Australia. Other organizations to which I have donated my work include: The Amanda Young Foundation, Yarloop Bushfires Appeal, Art for Legacy, Lions Club and Montesori Schools.
